Häxa Pins, Mini Paintings and Prints

It's been a while since I remembered to update this blog, so sorry about that!
I've been quite busy shipping out Häxa pins and getting more items ready to go out, along with planning new paintings for upcoming shows...and welcoming another daughter kitten into our family.

There are just about 20 Häxa pins left, you can get yours on my Bigcartel or Etsy sites.

I'm also very excited to release "A Spell for Strength" and "Moon Guardian" as signed, limited edition fine art prints, also available in my shops.

Other than that, there's some mini paintings left in my shops as well.

Keep your eyes peeled for some exciting new stuff coming soon and thanks for all your support! xx

New Works In Progress

Here's some sneak peeks of a few of the pieces I've been working on...

You can continue to follow my progress on My Instagram, My Facebook page, and personal account.

I've been posting a lot less on here, but I'm quietly progressing my most favorite paintings that I've made in a long time.

For this new year I've really wanted to slow down and make each painting the absolute best I can, so I'm refining both my technique and the narrative that the pieces share.  These paintings share the common environment of a post apocalyptic, human-less world populated by ghost animals and their own figment creatures.  Human skulls and bones are the only reminder of the "Up-rights" as the creatures utilize occult methods of divination and floral symbolism.

The scenes I'm creating in this series are also very personal metaphors; they have to do with overcoming loss, doubt and personal demons and surviving to become even stronger than ever previously thought possible.  Stylistically they combine elements that have been the crux of my visual passions since childhood; sweet simplicity and occult themes.

Here's my painting for "From The Toy Box", opening tonight in Seattle at Ltd Gallery.
I decided to to reimagine the Care Bears (a childhood favorite toy) in my own current style of cute occult-ness.

The show boasts an impressive lineup of artists, and is sure to have a lot of entertaining, nostalgic pieces!

A Rebirth

"A Rebirth"
acrylic on birch panel
4.5 x 6.5 inches oval framed to 8.5 x 12 inches approximately
2014
(SOLD)

Here's one of my newest paintings, "A Rebirth".
A tribute to spring where a white fox sits over the altar of one of the fallen "Uprights" or humans.  Flowers spring forth from the skull, the life cycle beginning again.  Blood drips from the Upright's eye socket and a butterfly perches upon the pink blossoms.

Bejeweled Beauties

"Bejeweled Beauties"
acrylic on birch panel
8 x 10 inches framed to 12.5 x 15 inches
2014
$575.00
SOLD

Here's my painting for "Indelible", opening April 5th at Aunia Kahn and Russell Moon's gallery, Alexi Era.
The show features a collection of art that reflects upon the idea of permanency.  For my piece, I chose to portray some white foxes, one of them winged, which have gemstones in their foreheads.

This is my first time showing at this gallery, and I'm honored both to be included and to have my image as one of those on the postcard and promotional materials.

Here's a cat portrait commission I finished recently for very nice young man in honor of his cats, Nathan Explosion and Toki Wartooth, named after the Dethklok members.

I was very happy to create this piece, as it contains many of my favorite things: cats, a goat skull, a bat, pentagram and of course Metalocalypse-themed pet names. :)

If you're interested in inquiring about a commission, please drop me a line at corylou311(at)yahoo(dot)com .

The Snow Fell Like Stars

"The Snow Fell Like Stars"
acrylic on birch panel
5 x 7 inches, framed to 9 x 11 inches
2013
$350.00
SOLD

Here's my Nordic winter scene for Modern Eden Gallery's Wanderlust show, opening December 14th in San Francisco.
The show features an amazing lineup of artists' portrayals of far away places they'd like to visit.
For me, the place I'd most like to visit would be one of the Scandinavian countries; especially Sweden in winter.

The painting features two arctic foxes along with a weasel and owl, illuminated by candles, under the snow-filled night sky.

The First Cold Night

"The First Cold Night"
acrylic on birch
5 x 7 inches, framed to 9 x 11 inches
2013
$300.00
SOLD

"The First Cold Night" (sketch)
pencil on heavyweight drawing paper
5 x 7 inches, unframed
2013
$100.00

Here's my painting and sketch from this year's "Get The Lead Out" show, at Swoon Gallery.
After a long spring/summer of painting creatures amongst foxgloves, the weather has finally changed and the nights are turning cold, both outside and now in my paintings.  As I created this one, it started to feel like one of the first crisp nights of autumn, and the animals gather around a smoking thurible under the moonlight and stars.

The Littlest Rabbit

"The Littlest Rabbit"
acrylic on birch panel
4.5 x 6.5 inch oval framed to 8 x 11 inches
2013
$350.00
For "A Picture's Worth A Thousand Words" at Ltd. Art Gallery in Seattle
SOLD

Here's my painting for the literary themed show, "A Picture's Worth A Thousand Words".
I chose one of my favorite childhood books, "The Littlest Rabbit" by Robert Kraus.

It is the story of a little rabbit who gets punched and teased for being so puny by the bigger rabbits.  One day he does grow bigger, and the world becomes a beautiful place for him.  He stands up against the new bullies that try to hurt the new little rabbits by beating them up.

Besides there being cute pictures, I think this is a pretty great kid's book because of it's recommendation of revenge against those who do you wrong.
In the book, however, the rabbit actually prays to grow bigger, so in mine I wanted her to be having a sort of forest altar with black candle, maybe speaking to a darker deity...

I love this book so much that it was actually my first tattoo.  And it's still there on my forearm; reminding me to not take shit from people and stand up for myself and those who need it.

The show opens Thursday, November 7th and is an amazing lineup of artists.

The Moongazer

"The Moongazer"
acrylic on birch panel
5 x 7 inches, framed to 7 x 9 inches
2013
$300.00
SOLD

The Moongazer appears at dusk, taking her place amongst the foxgloves and mushrooms, deep in the magic forest.  As she sits, staring, hypnotized by the heavenly orb, her horns glint in the light and her feathers twitch like her tail; as if with a mind of their own.  Her friends, the little mouse and two headed squirrel light a candle for her, and keep her company on her nightly ritual.  Upon the first rays of sunlight, the spell is broken, and the Moongazer disappears.

"The Moongazer" will be a part of Modern Eden gallery's "Curiosities" show, opening August 17th in San Francisco.
