A Spell for Strength

"A Spell For Strength"
acrylic on birch panel
5 x 7 inches framed to 9.5 x 11 inches
2016
*SOLD*

Here's my piece, "A Spell for Strength", which sold at the "Felis Catus" art show last weekend in Michigan's Future Gallery.

This witchy cat casts her spell for strength with fennel, lovage and thyme.  These plants mean force, courage, bravery and strength in Floriography,  the Victorian Language of Flowers.

Wild Spirit

"Wild Spirit"
acrylic on deep cradled birch panel
12 x 18 inches, unframed
2015
$950.00
Available HERE

Here's my painting, "Wild Spirit" for Gristle Gallery's "Libertine" show, opening Saturday, July 18th in Brooklyn.

I was greatly inspired by the definition of a Libertine; a being unrestrained by moral, religious and sexual boundaries.  I wanted to portray such a being; a fearless spirit that exists outside of the realm of the more timid creatures.
I chose lisianthus flowers to place amongst them as their meaning in Floriography (the Victorian era language of flowers) is "showy".

New Works In Progress

Here's some sneak peeks of a few of the pieces I've been working on...

You can continue to follow my progress on My Instagram, My Facebook page, and personal account.

I've been posting a lot less on here, but I'm quietly progressing my most favorite paintings that I've made in a long time.

For this new year I've really wanted to slow down and make each painting the absolute best I can, so I'm refining both my technique and the narrative that the pieces share.  These paintings share the common environment of a post apocalyptic, human-less world populated by ghost animals and their own figment creatures.  Human skulls and bones are the only reminder of the "Up-rights" as the creatures utilize occult methods of divination and floral symbolism.

The scenes I'm creating in this series are also very personal metaphors; they have to do with overcoming loss, doubt and personal demons and surviving to become even stronger than ever previously thought possible.  Stylistically they combine elements that have been the crux of my visual passions since childhood; sweet simplicity and occult themes.

Care Bears

"Care Bears"
acrylic on birch panel
5 x 5 inches framed to 7.5 x 7.5 inches
2014

Here's my painting for "From The Toy Box", opening tonight in Seattle at Ltd Gallery.
I decided to to reimagine the Care Bears (a childhood favorite toy) in my own current style of cute occult-ness.

The show boasts an impressive lineup of artists, and is sure to have a lot of entertaining, nostalgic pieces!

The Decision

"The Decision"
acrylic on birch panel
4.5 x 6.5 inches oval framed to 8.5 x 12 inches approximately
$350.00
2014
info@gristletattoo.com or 347.889.6422

Here's my painting for Gristle Gallery's "Secret World" show.
"The Decision" is a rather personal painting for me; the symbolism of the fox ghost beast having two heads deals with feeling two ways about something or someone; the feeling of being pulled in two directions at once and having to make a decision.
And sometimes no decision is possible.

I'm honored to have my painting included alongside an incredible lineup of artists' work in this show which also marks the gallery's three year anniversary.

A Rebirth

"A Rebirth"
acrylic on birch panel
4.5 x 6.5 inches oval framed to 8.5 x 12 inches approximately
2014
(SOLD)

Here's one of my newest paintings, "A Rebirth".
A tribute to spring where a white fox sits over the altar of one of the fallen "Uprights" or humans.  Flowers spring forth from the skull, the life cycle beginning again.  Blood drips from the Upright's eye socket and a butterfly perches upon the pink blossoms.

Bejeweled Beauties

"Bejeweled Beauties"
acrylic on birch panel
8 x 10 inches framed to 12.5 x 15 inches
2014
$575.00
SOLD

Here's my painting for "Indelible", opening April 5th at Aunia Kahn and Russell Moon's gallery, Alexi Era.
The show features a collection of art that reflects upon the idea of permanency.  For my piece, I chose to portray some white foxes, one of them winged, which have gemstones in their foreheads.

This is my first time showing at this gallery, and I'm honored both to be included and to have my image as one of those on the postcard and promotional materials.

Nathan and Toki Portrait

"Nathan Explosion and Toki Wartooth"
acrylic on birch panel
5 x 7 inches, framed

Here's a cat portrait commission I finished recently for very nice young man in honor of his cats, Nathan Explosion and Toki Wartooth, named after the Dethklok members.

I was very happy to create this piece, as it contains many of my favorite things: cats, a goat skull, a bat, pentagram and of course Metalocalypse-themed pet names. :)

If you're interested in inquiring about a commission, please drop me a line at corylou311(at)yahoo(dot)com .

The Snow Fell Like Stars

"The Snow Fell Like Stars"
acrylic on birch panel
5 x 7 inches, framed to 9 x 11 inches
2013
$350.00
SOLD

Here's my Nordic winter scene for Modern Eden Gallery's Wanderlust show, opening December 14th in San Francisco.
The show features an amazing lineup of artists' portrayals of far away places they'd like to visit.
For me, the place I'd most like to visit would be one of the Scandinavian countries; especially Sweden in winter.

The painting features two arctic foxes along with a weasel and owl, illuminated by candles, under the snow-filled night sky.
