"The Industry" for Los Angeles' The Hive gallery's upcoming show, "Blood & Oil", curated by Jennifer King.

The hawk, with a wrench clenched between it's beak, is surrounded by amaryllis flowers (meaning "pride" in Floriography, the Victorian language of flowers) and metallic gears.  Albino ravens flank a pastel goat skull.

The show is Saturday, March 9th, here's the flyer for more info.

I'm Here For Your Heart and I'm Not Leaving Without It

"I'm Here For Your Heart and I'm Not Leaving Without It"
Inspired by agriozoophilia; the obsessive love of wild animals
acrylic on birch panel
12 x 9.5 inches oval framed to 18 x 13 inches
2013

I chose agriozoophilia for the theme of this painting; the obsessive love of wild animals, which is definitely something I have!
I was also inspired by Valentine's Day, love, jealously, hatred, confusion; really all the mixed emotions that this holiday can stir up.

The animals are all experiencing different emotional states within or without relationships, and the title is both literal and figurative.

The show boasts yet another amazing lineup, including Buddy Nestor, Heather Gargon, Dan Harding, Caity Hackett, Jackie Gallagher, Jasmine Worth, Michal Brodka, Mike Wohlberg, Suzanne Falk, Zoe Williams and many more, including myself.

Venetian Fox

"Venetian Fox"
acrylic and gold leaf on birch
approx 5 x 7 inches framed to approx 8 x 9.5 inches
2013
(SOLD)

Here's my new painting, "Venetian Fox" for Modern Eden's upcoming show, "Venice".

The gold leafed cat mask is one of the types worn during the annual Carnival of Venice, and the purple lily symbolizes "majesty" in Floriography, the Victorian era language of flowers.

The show opens in San Francisco this Saturday, February 16th, with an amazing artist lineup and runs alongside Archer Dougherty's equally lovely solo show.

Forest Altar

"Forest Altar"
acrylic and silver leaf on birch panel
8 x 10 inches
2013
inquiries: corylou311(at)yahoo(dot)com

A young red fox sits besides his forest altar while a cardinal rings the altar's bell, with the insignia of the inverted pentagram.  The blue jay observes from below.  Candles burn upon the skull, lighting the night.

The animals are guardians of the occult; their secrets and magic elusive to humanity.

They are invincible ghosts of the forest....
